# $Id: offsets_changelog.txt,v 3.3 2004/08/09 23:45:54 rmk Exp $ Changelog: 2003-12-1 (rmk) Offsets regenerated using new itemized database. Several inconsistencies in the data were exposed and corrected, but users should mostly find the difference transparent to them. 2003-11-10 (rmk) Offsets regenerated with new formatting code. This is a first step towards itemizing offset data individually within the database, as opposed to the current method of keeping all data in a single text string. 2003-04-02 (rmk) Regenerated using the new tcd code. 2003-01-26 (rmk) Made assorted changes, including making the New Zealand "(PCT)" entries in both the harmonics and offsets the primary version. The original entries were renamed with a suffix of "(2)". Other fixes/updates were also made at the behest of Walt Bilofsky. 2002-12-02 (rmk) Added/updated 697 new offsets. Thanks to Walt Bilofsky for the updated NOAA offsets, and to Phil Thornton for his updated harmonics and offsets for New Zealand. 2002-08-26 (rmk) Added 450 new offsets provided by Walt Bilofsky. 2002-03-27 (rmk) As requested by Dave Buchholz: Names improved for several offsets. 2002-02-11 (rmk) As requested by Ron Robbins: Changed "Pear Point, Lopez Island, 1.1 mile East of, Washington Current" to "Pear Point, San Juan Island, 1.1 mile East of, Washington Current". 2001-09-04 (rmk) (Re)installed harmbase on it's new server after receiving the database dump from Dave Flater. Updated boilerplate text to reflect that. Corrected typo in "Fort Canby, Jetty A, Columbia River, Washington" (was "Canhy"). 2001-04-15 (dave) Corrected latitude of Waitara River Entrance. 2001-04-07 (dave) Imported offsets for New Zealand contributed by Walt Bilofsky. 2001-03-08 (dave) Deleted Round Point, Trinity Bay, Texas and Morgans Point, Texas, which had impossible offsets. Updated boilerplate. 2001-02-09 (dave) The method that I was using to check for dangling references was faulty, so it turns out that there were a lot more than just Norway. I changed the whole procedure so that subordinate stations should not even export from the database unless they have a valid reference. 2001-02-06 (dave) Removed Norwegian subordinate stations left dangling after the deletion of the TMGPM data from harmonics.txt. 2001-01-22 (dave) Corrected Ailyn, WA to Allyn, WA. 2001-01-15 (dave) Renamed the Seavey Island subordinate station to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, disputed waters, New England on advice that this is a different place than the Seavey Island (Back Channel) reference station. 2000-11-08 (dave) Deleted Bridgetown, Barbados after Michael Goddard reported that it disagrees with the local paper as well as direct observation. 2000-10-03 (dave) Fixed time zones of 19 Québec locations. Seavey Island, Back Channel, Maine to Seavey Island, disputed waters, New England (courtesy of several conflicting testimonies) 2000-10-01 (dave) Added Benoa, Bali, Indonesia sent by Manri Offermann. Changed time zone from :Asia/Singapore to :Asia/Ujung_Pandang; this keeps it at +8. (N.B., my atlas places Bali just on the Jakarta side, +7.) Corrections from Bilofsky: Montezurna Slough to Montezuma Slough Point St. Peter, Québec to Pointe Saint-Pierre, Québec Data error in Vulcan Island .5 mi E, San Joaquin River, California Current 2000-09-23 (dave) Name harmonizations and typo fixes: Belem (Para), Brazil to Belém, Pará, Brazil Cape Bryant, North Greenland to Cape Bryant, Greenland Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas Island}, Virgin Islands to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands Godthaab, Greenland to Godthåb, Greenland Harris, The Narrows}, Choctawhatchee Bay, Florida to Harris, The Narrows, Choctawhatchee Bay, Florida Magueyes Island, Puerto Rico to Magueyes Island, Caribbean Sea, Puerto Rico Port Burwell, Labrador [2] to Port Burwell, Labrador Punta Gorda, Beliza to Punta Gorda, Belize Seavey Island, Portsmouth Harbor, New Hampshire to Seavey Island, Back Channel, Maine Tiverton, St. Mary Bay, Nova Scotia to Tiverton (Boar's Head), St. Mary Bay, Nova Scotia Trinidad Harbor, to Trinidad Harbor, California Westport Harbor, Massachusetts to Westport Harbor Entrance, Massachusetts Winter Harbour, Melville Island, NWT, Canada to Winter Harbour, Melville Island, Nunavut/NWT Yarmouth Harbour, Nova Scotia to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia Miscellaneous spelling corrections of the accent and tilde variety, in what is sure to be a long battle against the legacy of 7-bit ASCII. Deleted duplicates: Ferndale, Washington Head Harbor, Isle Au Haut, Penobscot Bay, Maine Holly Farms Harbor, Washington Home, Von Geldern Cove, Washington Horsehead Bay, Washington McMicken Island, Washington (also, offsets contained typo) Woods Hole, Oceanographic Institution, Massachusetts Corrected time zones of 8 Nunavut locations. Several more fixes from Walt Bilofsky. 2000-09-21 (dave) Walt tweaked coordinates of most new offsets to harmonize with the more accurate ones in nos_station_list. Fixed broken linkage for all stations referencing Fernandina Beach, Florida. Progreso, Mexico changed to Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico to harmonize with harmonics.world. 2000-09-17 (dave) Offsets are now dumped from Harmbase. Added tons of locations translated from lots_of_offsets.txt, the NOAA web site, and other sources by Walt Bilofsky. Expanded all "Is." to "Island". 2000-08-30 (dave) Added encoding to prolog to placate Microsoft parser. 2000-08-29 (dave) Four renamings from Walt Bilofsky. 2000-08-27 (dave) Deleted Bangor Wharf, Washington to end conflict with Bangor, Washington in harmonics.world. 2000-08-21 (dave) Fixed units in depth of Oakland Inner Harbor Reach Current. Increased specificity of references for a few locations. 2000-08-20 (dave) Applied the following batch of corrections from Walt Bilofsky. Fixed broken linkage to ref station for Point Hammond. Deleted redundant Port Angeles, Washington with bad coordinates. Fixed name of Kristiansand (was incorrectly Kristiansund). Changed name of Oakland Inner Harbor Reach Current to note depth; fixed bogus coordinates. 2000-08-13 (dave) Fixed longitude of Gig Harbor and Discovery Island, 7.6 miles SSE of. Thanks to Walt Bilofsky. 2000-07-30 (dave) Nit fixes for compliance with XML 1.0. Because of #3 below, you must use XTide 2.2.2 or later to be able to access the stations in this file. Thanks to August Hahn for identifying the non-conformities. 1. For compatibility, removed line of dashes from header comments. (XML 1.0 section 2.5) 2. Syntax of prolog: downcased XML; removed RMD attribute. (XML 1.0 section 2.8) 3. Surrounded list of stations with a single root entity (XML 1.0 section 2.1) 2000-06-18 (dave) Added Washington subordinate stations from August Hahn. 2000-04-23 (dave) Unaliased Woods Hole Oceanographic Institut{e|ion}. 2000-04-12 (dave) Fixed broken linkage to ref station of Oakland Inner Harbor Reach Current. 2000-04-10 Added Port Everglades sent by Tom Cook. 1999-08-14 Added Cape Porpoise and Kennebunkport sent by Jonathan R. Senning (senning@sodor.ne.mediaone.net) but replaced coordinates with those of the NOS list. 1999-07-08 Added Norway data contributed by Olex AS (olex@olex.no). 1998-12-20 Added the avglevel and direction attributes used by Thomas Dean to the Oakland example. 1998-12-13 Added 7 subordinate stations in Massachusetts and North Carolina from Rob Thieler (rthieler@usgs.gov). 1998-12-06 Added 61 subordinate current stations in Washington from Thomas D. Dean. 1998-06-28 Renamed Brunswick, Maine (2) to Brunswick, Maine. Added Barnegat Inlet, New Jersey, replacing data set in harmonics. Added Port Angeles, Washington (2) due to complaints about the data in harmonics and/or harmonics.canadian. The new one agrees with none of the previous. Sigh. 1998-06-02 Discovered source of offsets at http://www.opsd.nos.noaa.gov/tp4days.html. Found the complete offsets for my "simple" example, Reagan National Airport. Installed those, replaced simple example with Head Harbor, Isle au Haut (which really _does_ have simple offsets), and added Machiasport and Brunswick, Maine (2). (Machiasport because I'm going there, and Brunswick for comparison with the regular predictions, which are suspicious). 1998-04-12 Added Saipan Harbor from AED and Wellfleet from "Zak" (zebroz@wpi.edu) 1998-02-22 Renamed National Airport per congressional mandate. 1998-01-11 First made publicly available. For the most part, you should be able to figure out how to encode any given subordinate station from the documentation at http://www.flaterco.com/xtide/harmonics.html. However, there are some things you should know. 1. "max" offsets apply to High Tide, Max Flood, and Min Ebb events (i.e., all events that appear as maxima in the graph). 2. "min" offsets apply to Low Tide, Max Ebb, and Min Flood events (i.e., all events that appear as minima in the graph). 3. "level" (in levelAdd and levelMultiply) refers to tide height or current velocity, as applicable. 4. If slack offsets are not provided for a current station, they will be set to the average of the max and min time offsets. 5. If time zone is not provided, it will be inherited from the reference station. -->
